Responsibilities
- Provide expert claim handling in coverage, investigation, evaluation, and resolution of first and third-party Ocean Marine and Energy Claims, including marine contractors, hull and machinery, cargo, general average, Jones Act, Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act, and energy claims.
- Ability to interpret and apply customized insurance policies to real-life situations.
- Conduct thorough, high-quality investigations utilizing the approved legal and vendor panel as necessary.
- Assigned claims may involve coverage interpretation and litigation, including specialized coverage extensions.
- Prepare appropriate coverage letters for review and approval by claims management.
- Complete an investigation on each claim promptly and thoroughly document the claim file with claim details.
- Handle assigned claims following company guidelines and industry best practices.
- Set accurate reserves on each claim within the given authority level and promptly advise management of claims requiring reserves exceeding authority.
- Maintain a diary system ensuring that each assigned claim receives ongoing attention.
- Possible travel to attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Use the claims system to maintain financials, including reserves, and make payments within assigned authority levels.
- Closely manage defense counsel, outside investigators, and surveyors to ensure appropriate loss adjustment expenses.
- Meet with members of other departments to discuss specific claim details or general claims issues.
- Maintain adjuster licenses in states as required.
