Mission & role of the function 

To ensure the efficient operation of the site operations in terms of the Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality and service through the successful and effective supervision of the Unit.

 

Seek to improve the efficiencies and existing performance levels.

 

Control activities to the highest possible standard, maintaining a high level of supervision always

  

Key accountabilities

The main activity of the role involves leading, directing and supervising the operational team to achieve its performance objectives.  The performance emphasis for this unit includes.

 

  • Health and Safety: Operating to the highest level of health and safety objectives in line with Hanson’s Health and Safety Plan.

  • Environmental: Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Hanson’s Environmental Management Plan.

  • Compliance: Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to with respect to all operational activities.

  • Operations: Achieve optimum Rail production levels in line with commercial activity at the lowest operation cost.       

  • Continually advance operational improvements to improve efficiency with the Rail production functions.

  • Distribution: Working with the logistics function to ensure operational procedures are such that highest customer service levels can be achieved.

  • Quality: Working with the technical function to ensure operational procedures are such that the highest quality levels are achieved.

  • Personal: To join IOQ and continue your own progress by means of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and by attending training courses and seminars as determined by Hanson.

  • Sustainability: To identify, develop and implement improvements to the sustainability of the site

  • Plant Operations: To ensure maximum plant availability by good maintenance programme being achieved.

  • Directing: Provide leadership to the site teams, ensuring that operational goals and expectations are understood and personnel are proactively developed.

  • Site profit performance

  • Operating KPI’s

  • Capex project performance and post appraisals

  • Statutory and company compliance levels

  • Customer satisfaction levels

Job dimensions

Currently 600kt – 900kt per annum of material through the rail depot (Varies by site)

Minimum 3 years relevant operational experience

  • The delegation of tasks and disciplining of employees under your direct control to achieve the required standard relation to Health & Safety and Quality

  • To comply with direct instruction from your General Foreman / Manager

  • Control of contractors to ensure they are operating safely and following all relevant company procedures

  • To maintain Stock Control and minimise waste of materials used on site –i.e. gas oil, whilst also minimising the effect of site operations on the environment

  • To ensure that the daily inspection and maintenance of plant, fixed and mobile is undertaken by them selves and direct reports

 

Education/Qualification

  

Essential

NVQ Level 4 Health & safety and Environmental Management in Quarries (or have the capacity to achieve this qualification within 12 months of appointment). High level either vocational or educational IOSH Managing Safely IEMA Environmental Managers/ Supervisors Course

  

Desirable

Current First Aid Certificate MIQ membership and current CPD registration
