Navantia Australia currently have an exciting opportunity for a Superintendent Mechanical Systems to join the AOR Program team out of its Garden Island, Rockingham office. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a successful team who thrive on collaboration and teamwork.

As the Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating and supervising the subcontractors and OEMs performing maintenance service activities. The Superintendent is the Subject Matter Expert in the mechanical area supporting in-service requirements for the AOR platform in the delivery of maintenance services. The Superintendent will establish a collaborative working relationship with Ship’s Crew, the Commonwealth SPO representative and the subcontractors to create and grow a best practice and efficient maintenance engineering services support capability.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Ship Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Planning Manager and the Maintenance Manager in matters to do with the maintenance management of the AOR Platforms.
  • Assist the Engineering team to investigate and resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct Technical Engineering investigations, including triage of maintenance defects related reports.
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments including reporting to facilitate updating of the Technical Risk Register.
  • Conduct/oversee System Safety engineering activities related to mechanical systems.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Engineering changes.
  • Develop Work Instructions and participate in the preparation of Work Packs including working with assigned subcontractors for the review of SWMS’s and ITP’s.
  • Ensure assigned subcontractors follow the required safety and environmental requirements in regards to isolations and work/high risk permits.
  • Manage/oversee subcontractors undertaking mechanical maintenance services including managing safety, cost, schedule, quality and technical requirements to ensure all services are delivered as contracted.
  • Prepare AOR plans and reports as required by the Maintenance Planning Manager.
  • Support the Ship Maintenance Manager in the selection and engagement of subcontractors.
  • Assist the Ship Maintenance Manager in preparing and supporting AOR cost Budgets.
  • Manage and coordinate the test and trials processes related to platform systems.
  • Review and verify the completeness of all OQE associated with assigned work packages.
  • Assist in the closure of completed work packages in AMPS.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Minimum Trade Qualified, with relevant supervisory experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Proven skills and experience in leading contracted planned maintenance and breakdown activities.
  • Experience within a Marine environment, preferably in the Defence Sector.
  • Excellent technical skills in marine systems.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and with all stakeholders.
  • Mandatory participation in the URDEF on call roster.
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance
