HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (2) plants, being Overhauls and Gearbox repairs.
Position purpose:
The Trades Assistant supports tradespeople in executing their tasks efficiently and safely. The role involves a variety of tasks, from preparing tools and materials to assisting with technical work. This position is crucial for maintaining workflow and ensuring the successful completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
The Trade Assistant will be responsible for:
• Operate machinery and equipment to cut, strip, and assemble cables according to specifications.
• Insert conductors, insulators, and other components into cable assemblies.
• Use hand tools and automated systems to complete the assembly process.
• Inspect finished cables for defects and ensure they meet industry standards and specifications.
• Perform routine tests to verify the integrity and functionality of the cables.
• Document and report any issues or deviations from quality standards.
• Set up and calibrate machines used in the cable-making process.
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Manage and organise raw materials, such as wires, insulation, and connectors.
• Ensure that materials are used efficiently and stored properly to prevent waste and damage.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Adhere to company policies and industry regulations regarding cable production and handling.
• Participate in safety training and report any hazards or safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate records of production activities, including quantities, materials used, and any issues encountered.
• Provide reports to supervisors or managers as required.
• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
• Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in electrical or mechanical fields preferred.
- Previous experience in cable manufacturing or a related field is advantageous.
- Understanding of electrical components, cable assemblies, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in operating machinery and using hand tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift, stand, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Forklift Licence, Essential.
- Dogging ticket, Desirable.
- RII Operate Gantry Crane or HRWL Crane Ticket, Desirable.
