Requirements

Construction inspectors experienced in Underground utilities specifically fiber optic/conduit/directional drilling for long term East and West based construction management.

Construction Inspectors with ACI, MAG to oversee high-speed internet micro-trench and directional drilling projects.

 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with MAG and City standards.
  • Facilitate pre-construction meetings.
  • Proficient and experienced with MAG and City standards for pavement and concrete structure inspections.
  • Conducting inspections of pothole, trench, and pavement restoration.
  • Inspecting micro trenching and horizontal directional drilling (bore profiles).
  • Scheduling materials testing according to the frequency outlined
  • Preparing and issuing correction notices and stop work orders.
  • Conducting final inspections and identifying punch list items.
  • Responsively addressing internal and external customer needs.
  • Investigating citizen complaints and determining necessary corrective actions.
  • Tracking inspection hours using permit numbers and contractor information.
  • Monitoring inspections, bore clearances, hard restoration, and material testing based on issued construction plans.
  • Proficiently managing the City's Project Phasing and Sequencing policy, ensuring contractors adhere to segmenting Utility permits into 2500-foot segments.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports for future reference, including date, work location, weather conditions, test results, equipment usage, and a detailed daily narration of principal activities.
  • Keeping relevant pictures and summarizing each inspection in DIMES under the UTL permit number.
  • Providing a weekly executive summary to the Right of Way Manager without prompting, covering tasks such as the percentage of conduit and fiber optic cable installed, percentage of restoration completed, records of resident complaints received and resolved, and records of damaged City infrastructure along with inspection dates.
  • Utilizing permit software to maintain a daily inspection log, document field changes, closeout permits, and upload photos and other relevant documentation.
  • Ability to: read and interpret construction plans, specifications and details, utility maps, and related engineering and architectural plans and drawings in order to ensure compliance with project specifications; review and approve owned utility plans for conformance with MAG and City specifications; calculate appropriate fees; inspect project work sites to ensure acceptable quality levels, and compliance with MAG standards, and City procedures and standards in civil engineering and public works construction; inspect sub-bases and Aggregate Base Course (ABC) bases for grade, compaction, moisture, and preparation for paving; inspect asphaltic and portland cement concrete paving for thickness, density, smoothness, and conformance to design; inspect forms for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; interact with contractors and construction personnel to ensure work activities and products meet required quality levels and standards; analyze construction problems, determine possible solutions, and select the option which best resolves the situation while maintaining quality standards.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Requires graduation from high school or GEDThree years of experience in direct civil inspection and be ACI (American Concrete Institute certified.)

 

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field and/or NICET certification, Asphalt Certifications- ATTI, APWA Certified Public Infrastructure certification, or ASU Horizontal Directional Drilling Academy Certification.
